1 Corinthians 6:12-20
The Apostle Paul delivers a sobering yet transformative reminder: we do not belong to ourselves. Every believer has been purchased at a staggering cost—the blood of Jesus Christ. Many misunderstand freedom in Christ, using grace as a license to sin. While “all things are lawful,” not all things are beneficial. True freedom in Christ is never freedom to sin; it is freedom from sin—the power to live in holiness and obedience to God.
Paul calls us to flee immorality, not flirt with it. Sin is never harmless—it wounds the soul, damages relationships, and dishonors the Savior who redeemed us. Every act of sin occurs in the presence of God, whose Spirit dwells within us. To indulge in sin is to misuse what now belongs wholly to Him: our bodies, minds, and hearts. Our bodies are not meant for immorality but for the Lord. We are temples of the Holy Spirit—holy ground where God Himself lives.
When we truly grasp that we have been bought with a price, everything changes. We no longer live for pleasure or self-gratification but for the glory of the One who died and rose again for us. The same power that raised Christ from the dead now dwells in us, enabling us to overcome sin and walk in purity. Paul’s plea is simple yet piercing: do not be mastered by your desires—be mastered by Christ. He is not a harsh taskmaster but a loving Redeemer who sets us free to live for what truly satisfies—His glory.
You were bought, not cheaply, but eternally. Therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, for both belong to Him.
