Matthew 25:1-13
Jesus’ parable of the ten virgins calls us into a posture of vigilance and preparation. In a world filled with distractions and fleeting comforts, it’s easy to mistake outward activity for true readiness. Yet the heart of this teaching is clear: what matters most is a living, breathing relationship with Christ, fueled by the Spirit and marked by devotion, repentance, and obedience. Without this “extra oil,” our faith can flicker and fade when the hour of reckoning arrives.
The story challenges us to examine our own spiritual lives. Are we merely carrying the appearance of faith, or are we truly walking with the Bridegroom? Wisdom is found in staying awake, maintaining our lamps, and nurturing a heart that eagerly anticipates His return. Every moment of prayer, every act of surrender, and every decision to live obediently adds to the readiness of our souls. Complacency and distraction leave us vulnerable, while intentional devotion preserves the light that guides us to eternity.
This parable also reminds us that time is precious and the call to be prepared is urgent. The door to the feast will one day close, and the question will no longer be if He comes, but whether we are truly known by Him. How might we cultivate the spiritual vigilance and intimacy with Christ that keeps our lamps burning brightly? Are we ready to meet the Bridegroom when He comes?
