Luke 19:1-10
From the beginning, humanity has sought to hide from God, retreating into shadows after sin. Adam and Eve ran, yet God came searching, asking, “Where are you?” That same question echoes in the story of Zacchaeus, a wealthy tax collector who climbed a tree to escape notice. Like Adam, he sought to stay hidden, but Jesus came seeking him, revealing the transformative power of divine grace.
Zacchaeus, rich yet spiritually bankrupt, stood despised and isolated. Yet when Jesus called his name, everything changed. The one who climbed up to see Christ came down to receive Him, and in that encounter, the sinner became a son, the lost were found, and a greedy heart became generous. Jesus’ pursuit demonstrates that no position, wealth, or shame can block the reach of His love. Divine mercy seeks out those who are lost, offering forgiveness, restoration, and life.
This story is a mirror for all of us. We climb our own trees of fear, pride, or shame, yet Christ stands below, calling each of us by name. His love penetrates every hiding place, reaching higher than sin and deeper than fear. The Son of Man still seeks and saves the lost today. How will you respond when He calls your name? Will you come down and receive the life He offers?
