Hebrews 6:4-12
One of the sobering truths of Scripture is that it is possible to be near salvation and yet remain far from it. Hebrews 6 reminds us of this caution: some have been enlightened by God’s truth, stirred by His Spirit, and touched by His power, yet never fully believed. They have seen the light of Christ but preferred the shadows of their own ways. Knowledge of the truth alone does not save; only genuine faith transforms the heart. You can sit among the wheat and still be a weed. You can taste the promise of heaven without embracing grace.
Jesus illustrated this reality with a parable of a field sown with wheat and weeds, growing side by side until the harvest. In the church today, the distinction is often invisible—those who truly follow Christ and those who only appear to. The warning is clear: do not settle for proximity to truth or rely on religious experience, emotion, or association. True salvation requires coming fully to Christ, surrendering the heart, and yielding to His grace.
Yet within this warning lies hope and encouragement. The writer of Hebrews assures believers that God sees our faith, love, and service, and He blesses hearts that bear fruit. The field that receives His nourishment flourishes, while what resists His care withers. Let this message inspire faith, not fear, prompting us to cling wholly to Jesus. The difference between “almost” and “saved” is eternal—choose to be counted among the wheat, fully surrendered to the Savior, and rooted in His life-giving truth.
