Matthew 16:21-27
There comes a pivotal moment in every life when everything shifts—a point where choices define destiny. In Matthew 16:21–27, Jesus revealed such a moment to His disciples: the road to the cross was set, and His mission was laid bare. He would not seek earthly power or conquest, but would suffer, die, and rise again. This was God’s eternal plan, unfolding in plain sight, yet it challenged human understanding and expectation.
For Peter and the others, the message was staggering. How could the Messiah speak of suffering and death? Jesus’ response was both gentle and firm: “You are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.” He called His followers to see beyond comfort, beyond human reasoning, and to embrace the heart of divine purpose. Discipleship, He explained, carries a cost that cannot be ignored.
To follow Christ is to take up the cross, deny self, and walk a path of surrender and obedience. Life is found not in clinging to the world, but in laying it down for His sake. The eternal question remains: What will it profit a person to gain everything the world offers but forfeit the soul? Each of us faces our own turning point—will we follow Him, no matter the cost?
