Hebrews 8:1-13
Too often, we see life through a distorted lens, mistaking shadows for reality. Just as a goldfish peers through curved glass, we can become trapped in limited perspectives—believing that what we touch, see, or accomplish defines the truth. Yet the writer of Hebrews calls us to step beyond this illusion, to see the reality found in Jesus Christ. What is visible is temporary, a mere reflection of something far greater. The true substance, the unshakable truth, is Christ Himself, who fulfills what the old covenant could only foreshadow.
The earthly temple, priests, and sacrifices were copies pointing toward perfection. They were never meant to last, for humanity could not uphold them. God’s mercy, however, promised a covenant written not on stone but on human hearts. Through Jesus, our eternal High Priest, that covenant is fulfilled. His one perfect sacrifice accomplished what countless offerings never could, securing our place before God through His blood and resurrection. Worship, gratitude, and even our weaknesses are now presented before the throne of grace by Christ Himself, not by imperfect human hands.
The call is clear: step out of the fishbowl, beyond the distorted reflections of this world, and into the eternal reality of God. Christ’s priesthood is complete, heavenly, and unchanging. Every shadow points to Him, every promise finds its fulfillment in His mercy, and every heart can be inscribed with His law of love. How might seeing through Christ’s truth change the way you live today? What illusions need to be set aside to embrace the reality of His grace?
