Acts 7:54-60
Acts 7:54–60 presents one of Scripture’s most heart-stirring moments — the martyrdom of Stephen, the first servant of Christ to give his life for the gospel. Surrounded by rage and blinded by hatred, Stephen remained steadfast in the truth. Those who claimed to know God failed to recognize His Son. Yet Stephen’s eyes were fixed on heaven, not on the angry crowd, and he saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God, ready to welcome His faithful servant home.
In that moment, grace triumphed over fear. Stephen’s face shone with heaven’s light because his heart was anchored in Christ. While others raged, he prayed with love: “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” His prayer echoes across the centuries, showing that true faith is proven not in comfort, but in costly obedience. The world may reject the message of the cross, but heaven receives those who stand for it. Stephen’s gaze beyond the chaos reminds us to look to the Savior who awaits us, even amidst life’s trials.
Death could not silence Stephen’s testimony, and it cannot silence ours. For believers, the end of life is not defeat but triumph — not tragedy, but the doorway to glory. When our eyes remain on Jesus, we can stand with peace, speak with grace, and rest in hope, even in the face of death. How might keeping your focus on Christ transform the way you face life’s challenges today?
